Manufacturing Cluster and Centre of Excellence.

IAS designs, develops, and manufactures Unmanned Aerial Systems, “UASs”.  Our UASs are based on our advanced proprietary airframes and best in class subsystems and payloads bought in or built to meet the specific requirements of defence organisations, civil agencies, commercial companies and other entities over the next three decades.

Defence, civil and commercial organisations around the world have recognised or are discovering the exceptional value of using UASs to meet their current and future mission requirements.

Defence, Civil and Commercial Market Sectors.

The Defence Market is currently the largest sector of the three.  This market is currently driven by large theatre operations.  These operations are slowly being wound down. Asymmetric wars around the world are growing as both nation states and non-state actors adopt this method of warfare.  Nation states are tasking their intelligence agencies and their special forces to engage in short sharp missions over a number of geographic locations within and across national boundaries.  These organisations are using UASs increasingly to meet these challenges.   As a result the UAS defence market sector is expected to grow over the next twenty years. This growth will contribute to an increase Defence Market Sector sales by volume. Because the Civil and Commercial Market Sectors will grow faster, it is expected that in five years the Defence Market Sector will represent a smallest share of the overall UAS market.

The Civil Market is small now but is developing quickly and will grow into the second largest by volume of the three market sectors, reaching thousands of units in the next three years. The current Civil market focusses primarily on protection activities.  States are increasingly engaged in actions to protect their territorial assets including oil, gas, water, fishing, and off-shore islands. They are also actively engaged in stopping or stemming the smuggling of people, drugs and other contraband materials.

The Commercial Market is small now but is developing rapidly and will grow into the largest by volume of the three market sectors, reaching tens of thousands of units in the next five years and hundreds of thousands in the next twenty years. The USA market alone is forecasted to total 70,000 units within the next ten years. However in the short term rapid growth will occur in the Middle East, Africa, South America and Asia Pacific where commercial air regulatory rulings are much less restrictive regarding the use of UASs than in the UK, Europe and the USA.

The Commercial Market includes a wide variety of applications which are now largely served by small fixed wing planes and helicopters.   Some of these applications include: routine power line and rail line break identification, off shore oil and gas platform scheduled surveillance, crop management, forest management, animal-at-risk management, geological survey and mapping, flood and disaster assessment, air sampling and early warning and measurement of critical chemical, biological and radiation conditions, weather data collection and environmental monitoring, commercial security at large installations, publicity photography and private event protection, wilderness and park patrols and monitoring of certain conditions such as forest fires.

UAS Positioning.

The UAS market is fragmented.  The USA is currently the market leader primarily dependent on sales by US defence companies to US government agencies for use mainly in Iraq and Afghanistan.  These companies’ sales to other countries and foreign companies has been constrained by USA government export restrictions and as a result prevents them from becoming a worldwide leader as civil and commercial market demand grows over the next ten years. Even though there is some relaxation of controls in the fourth of quarter of 2013 it will not be enough to assist US company global market opportunities.

As a result, there is no current or projected dominant worldwide manufacturer or supplier.

The Unmanned Aerial System is a disruptive technology which offers totally new ways to meet mission requirements and/or replace the current ways many defence, civil and commercial organisations meet their objectives.   UASs offer significantly greater endurance, capability and flexibility than small planes, helicopters, and satellites and as importantly deliver these benefits at a far lower cost.

IAS plans to gain market share by volume within five years.

The Viator Series is IAS’s flag ship UAS portfolio. The Viator Series is unique.

No other single UAS model available now, or in the foreseeable future,  has the capability and flexibility to meet the varying roles and missions of defence organisations, civil agencies, commercial companies and other entities over the next three decades.

No other single UAS model available now, or in the foreseeable future, is able to offer lower procurement and life cycle costs to these sectors. The Viator Series requires no design or manufacturing changes and no further research and development.

The Viator Series is ideally suited to meet the requirements of all three market sectors and become a global leader in specific market and soluton vertical segments.
